The Garden in spring

It is springtime once again in our garden. I love this time of year. Everywhere I look I see God’s handiwork. Our five oak trees are clothed in fresh, light green new leaves – a stunning contrast to their winter drabness. The wisteria over the arbour on our patio is spectacular; it’s the best it has been this year. I love its lacy pendulous flowers that dance in the breeze. The bearded irises are more beautifully clothed than any debutante! Our roses are just bursting into flower, a little late this year but there are hundreds of buds promising a wonderful display. The big bright yellow friesia rose is the first to appear as usual. Its striking yellow stands out in contrast to its glossy dark green foliage and it has the most gorgeous heady scent of all our roses.

All this reminds me of the often quoted poem by Dorothy Frances Gurney, “One is nearer God’s heart in the garden, than anywhere else on earth.” That is how I feel in my garden; at peace, surrounded by God and his awesome creation.
