Weeds

Look, I’m no gardener that’s for sure. Even weeding needs my wife’s expert guidance!

The other day, (with her watching) I was working in an area of the garden that was packed with weeds. I was pulling one particular type out and kept feeling ‘pinging’ sensations - something was hitting me like a barrage of tiny bullets. What is going on? “That’s the plant shooting out its seeds as you pull it out of the ground!”

You’ve got to be joking… This thing is making sure there will be more weeds right here where I’m clearing them away. Wow.

Believing in the existence of a God who created everything is a completely personal decision.

Someone once said to me “I just can’t believe there’s a God”. Well, for me, I just can’t believe there isn’t a God.

I believe there’s a Creator who designed intricate, astounding and complicated things, like that seed shooting weed!

No doubt I’m switched on to looking for more and more evidence of a Creator as I go through each day, but I do see that evidence in so many living things even in our own garden at home and yes, even in the weeds; they are so potent. If you let them go every garden would be swamped by them. Every lawn would become a jungle!

It seems like a never ending task - which is pretty much what the Bible tells us would happen when it talks about “thorns and thistles” and working “in the sweat of your face” when working in your garden.

This all sounds like bad news – and it is – but there’s so much more to God than this. If there’s this much complexity to weeds imagine how much more complex the rest of His creation is. Read our other blogs and you’ll see what I mean.
