Peace

“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14 (NIV)

We are all searching for peace in our lives, a lot of time and effort is spent on trying to achieve it.

Did you know God has given us guidelines in the Bible to make it possible to find peace? Even when times are tough we are shown examples of how to meditate on his word.

Consider the story of Joseph. You can read about it in the Bible in Genesis 37 through to Genesis 50. He was sold into slavery by his own brothers. On top of that, once in Egypt he was falsely accused of doing something wrong and consequently spent many years in prison. He had every reason to want revenge on his brothers. The Bible shows that later in life, when his brothers came to Egypt looking for help during a famine, Joseph was in a position to help. What a perfect time to exact revenge. Despite this, Joseph decided to give his brothers an opportunity to show that they had changed, and ended up making peace with what had happened, and saved the whole family. This is a clear example of how much good can come from choosing to make peace in life, both with yourself and others!

It is important to be able to find peace in God’s plan for you. You don’t get to choose everything that is going to happen in your life, but you can control your reaction.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 (NIV)
