Distractions
Here’s a dictionary definition of the word distraction: “something that prevents someone from giving their attention to something else”.
As a follower of Jesus, I know that my primary aim should be to be like Jesus, spending my time learning more from God’s word and sharing that with other people.
What I find though, is I have a comfortable life with many, many other activities available that I can easily waste my time on. Sports, hobbies, TV, internet, eating out, visiting friends – the list goes on. And there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with any of these things… provided they don’t dominate my life and become more important to me than serving God.
I think this is quite a challenge for all of us. Most of us are fortunate enough in Australia to have all the essentials of life, with plenty of leisure time. So how do we spend it?
Well, it depends on whether you’re looking for something solid to fall back on. Our lives can be quite uncertain – the Bible writer James describes it this way: “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” James 4:14 (NLT)
On the other hand, this is what Jesus said: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.” John 6:47 (NKJV)
