What can stand in the way of my being baptised?

Baptism is the act of total immersion in water. It is symbolic of death and resurrection. What that means practically is the “burial” of our human nature and our decision to follow the behavioural principles set out by God in the Bible.

To be baptised you need to have a belief in God. Mark 16:16 reads, “whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” (NIV). In order to believe, you must understand and believe His plan and purpose for this earth, which is explained in the Bible. Another part of baptism is showing repentance for where we sin, as it says in Acts 2:38 “…Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” (NIV).

By being baptised we become a part of Gods family. (Gal 3:26-28) reads “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (NIV)

We are given a new life and a new hope.

God’s word is for everyone, and in answer to the question “what can stand in the way of my being baptized?” Only you!
