Living a humble life - final of a three part series

Welcome to part 3 of our 3 part series on practicing humility. In parts 1 & 2 we looked at developing our mindset and then turning those thoughts into actions. In this our final part to this series we look at a few things we can schedule time in our week to do and also a few things to support our new mindset.

“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35 NLT) Volunteer.

“Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.”  (Galatians 6:4 NLT) Don’t compare yourself to others.

“Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.” (Proverbs 9:9 NLT) Be teachable.

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”   (Matthew 6:1-4 (NLT) Practice anonymous kindness.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29 (NLT) Don’t complain so much.

“Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you. For they all know that my disaster has come from the hand of the Lord. For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.” (Job 12:7-10 NLT) Spend more time in nature.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34 NLT) Practice mindfulness.

Let’s keep moving forward, always humbling ourselves before God and looking to Him for everything required to live this life. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13 NLT) but “Without Him, I can do nothing” (John 15:5 NLT).
