Three things you can do for God

1. Acknowledge that He exists

2. Recognise the consequences of that acknowledgement

3. Do what He wants us to do

There are the three things. Notice that there’s a progression with each action building on the previous one/s. A great deal could be written, and has been about each point. For this article though I want to consider just two verses. To me they cover all three things that I can do for God.

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6, NIV)

This verse highlights that believing in God and acknowledging His existence is an act of faith. We can’t prove that God exists, though it’s by no means an illogical conclusion to reach based on what we can see and what we can read in His book, the Bible. This verse also goes past the three points because it states there is a reward for us if we please God.

“But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.” (James 2:18, NIV)

This verse shows there is more to pleasing God than simply acknowledging that He exists. Having the faith to do this isn’t enough. Pleasing God is an active process.

So what does He want us to do? Find out by reading His book. In a world that seems pretty crazy His book is a source of great comfort to me, and many others. Have a read for yourself. There’s nothing to lose.
