Truth
Winston Churchill is once reported to have said, “Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened.” (Winston Churchill, circa 1936)
This pandemic has brought home a truth that most people will fail to recognise. As Australia and many other countries slowly slip into a recession, I feel like God is sending us this reminder: mankind is not able to manage the world on its own.
You might say that nobody could have predicted or stopped COVID-19. True! Only God could do that. But take the virus out of the picture. How were we doing before that? Pollution and climate change are still lurking in the background, threatening our very existence. Then we have all the injustice and inequality in the world – millionaires on one hand, people starving and homeless on the other. The recent rioting in the USA and other countries highlights racial issues that are simmering just under the surface.
The fact is we need God. The good news is that God is not going to leave us to self-destruct; He is going to send His son, Jesus Christ, back to the earth to take over. Here’s just one of hundreds of verses from the Bible about this time.
“Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:7, NKJV)
This is good news! Hop on board!
