Adult baptism

Why did I choose adult baptism?

It’s a great question and one I have been asked before. Making a life-long commitment takes thought, dedication and understanding. This is why we have minimum legal ages to do things like get married and drive a car. These things require maturity, decision-making and commitment to focus on what you’re getting yourself into before you do it. These things also require study and a test or an interview to make sure you are ready and understand the gravity of what you are signing up for.

Well baptism to me is no different. It is a commitment that cannot be taken lightly. You need to fully understand what you are signing up to, and I believe that choice is vital. God wants us to choose Him, He does not want mindless obedience. A great Bible verse says But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptised.” (Acts 8:12, NKJV)

We see here that to be baptised you need to believe first and we also see in this verse that the people who were baptised were men and women. Another great couple of Bible verses are found in the Gospel record of Mark which say “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.’” (Mark 16:15-16, NKJV). We see again here that baptism requires belief first. So what do we need to believe before we can be baptised?

The basis for baptism is to understand God’s plan for mankind and the earth that He has created. It is understanding the answer to the question “Why are we here?” If you have ever found yourself pondering that question and are interested in finding out more about what answers the Bible has to offer, check out the links below which will start you off in exploring the Bible message, including a step by step study of the bible which can help you gain the knowledge and understanding needed for baptism.
