Are you ok?

Thursday 7th September 2021 was ‘R U Ok?’ day. The idea of this is for people to touch base with friends and family and simply ask – are you ok? This is to highlight potential mental health issues, or any other difficulties someone we care about might be having.

The thought behind this is that a conversation could save a life and that if we don’t ask, how would we ever know? I have to admit that over the last 6 months or so, I have felt less ok, more often than ever before.

Over the last 18-24 months the world has been, and for the most part still is in chaos. Perhaps it’s been that chaos and uncertainty that has allowed the negativity and argumentative nature of total strangers to seep down into my soul. Or maybe it’s been the overwhelming flow of desperately unwell and struggling people I deal with on a day to day basis that has slowly eroded my resilience until at times, it has felt like there is none left.

Life isn’t supposed to feel like a huge weight that could crush us at anytime. Life, although not meant to be easy, is not expected to feel like it’s full of uncertainty, grief and disappointment.

But there are times unfortunately when it does.

You’re probably wondering ‘is he ok?’ …Am I? At times it’s a struggle, but overall I am ok, because I have hope to hold on to.

The Bible says “Therefore, we who have fled to him [God] for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.”  (Hebrews 6:18-19, NLT)

So – are you ok?

If you’re struggling, and having a hope to help you through sounds helpful, grab a Bible and check it out – it just might save your life.
