Death and taxes

The saying, “the only two certainties in life are death and taxes” (or a similar variant) was likely used by Benjamin Franklin circa 1789.

How true is this saying today?! The Covid pandemic has not only taken lives, it has also taken away certainty in so many things we used to take for granted. On a local level businesses are struggling to survive or simply having to close. Travel plans have been ruined, family gatherings banned and in some cases, even leaving your own house is forbidden.

At the global level, world economies are in tatters and there is serious unrest about how governments are managing their constituents through the isolation and vaccination process.

The hopes of the world are pinned on a successful vaccination program – only time will tell if this is going to work. In the meantime, uncertainty continues as each day we anxiously check the news for latest infection figures.

Fortunately, there is a third certainty. God is going to send His son Jesus to the earth to rescue us from all our worries and troubles.

Here’s just one verse from the Bible that talks about that time…

“Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.  The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” (Isaiah 9:7, NIV)
