Conversations
I recently read this quote on a desk calendar: “Beware thin conversations! In the Manic Society, we excel at short-hand relationships in which we get each other’s abridged headline news, but miss out on intimate heart-to-heart exchanges.” (Anonymous)
It’s so true, isn’t it?! We send brief text messages, we click ‘like’ on Facebook and read our emails. It’s been noted before that people in a café, at the same table, instead of talking to each other, can be focused on scrolling through their phones.
Never before in history has information been so readily available thanks to the age of electronic media. It’s a fantastic tool, but it can also be misused and adversely affect human interaction, particularly in children who crave more ‘screen time’.
But it can also be noted that an adult, attending one of their children’s events/activities, misses out on a child’s accomplishments, or even eye contact, because they are glued to a particular device.
Sadly, this age has also seen a decline in people talking to God. We’re busier, more stressed, more concerned about what’s happening to our world – and yet we don’t think about looking to God for help and answers.
The Bible says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” (Philippians 4:6, NLT)
It can’t hurt to give it a try and you might find a whole new peaceful way of life opening up for you.
