Helping others

Helping other people contributes happiness to those we are helping, and to ourselves. It helps take our mind off our worries, and makes us feel more connected to others. Studies show that doing kind things activates the reward centres of the brain and makes us feel good. Every act of kindness, no matter how small makes an impact. The Bible tells us “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35, NIV) Giving doesn’t have to be money; we can give our attention, our time, our energy and support. Maybe you give someone a hand by babysitting, visit a sick friend, call someone who is lonely, help a little old lady get the can off the top shelf at the supermarket, or simply – give someone a smile. It all counts, and it all makes a difference.

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16, NIV)
