Recently my wife and I were sick for a couple of weeks with what we think was the flu virus rather than coronavirus. Experts are saying we (collectively) can expect a bad year for illness, as our immunity has been compromised by long periods of isolation during the pandemic.

It’s amazing how being sick takes over – your whole world shrinks. It’s difficult to think of anything or anybody other than yourself. You just try to struggle through this day and hope the next is better. Fortunately for us, we got better. Sadly, there are millions in the world who are chronically ill, and they don’t see much improvement at all.

I think we’re all beginning to realise that we (mankind) can’t fix these problems. In fact, we’re the cause of many of them. This reminds me of a quote from the Matrix movie, delivered by Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith, “Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.” (The Wachowskis, 1999)

Actually, God is the cure. He has stood back and left us to our own devices for quite some time now, because we have basically said we don’t want Him in our lives. But for the sake of those who believe in Him and because of promises He made to Abraham thousands of years ago, God IS going to step in.

Speaking about the time when God’s son, Jesus, will return to the earth and set up God’s kingdom we read, “And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer and those who cannot speak will sing for joy! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the wasteland.” (Isaiah 35:5-6, NIV)
