A new king
There has been a great outpouring of emotion over the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Regardless of attitudes towards the monarchy in general, there appears to be universal admiration for this woman who dedicated herself to her people and country over such a long period of time.
The news has been overrun with stories about her life and reign which will no doubt continue until she is laid to rest. The future of the monarchy under King Charles III is less certain, with many taking a ‘wait and see’ approach.
There was another person who displayed great dedication and obedience to duty like the Queen, almost 2,000 years ago. Jesus Christ lived a much shorter life on earth than the Queen, suffering a horrible death by crucifixion at the relatively young age of approximately 33 and a half years.
However, his obedience and sacrifice were not in vain. God chose to grant Jesus with immortality so, three days after his death, he was raised back to life and ascended to heaven where he now sits with his Father.
When God says the time is right, Jesus is going to return to the earth – and this time he will be a king. He will have the power and authority to fix all the problems of this world – something that no one else is capable of, no matter how admired they are.
The great news is that Jesus won’t grow old and die, he will be here for good.
“For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder. These will be his royal titles: “Wonderful,” “Counselor,” “The Mighty God,” “The Everlasting Father,” “The Prince of Peace.” His ever-expanding, peaceful government will never end. He will rule with perfect fairness and justice from the throne of his father David. He will bring true justice and peace to all the nations of the world.” (Isaiah 9:6-7, TLB)
