7 things
I follow a Bible readings plan which has two sections from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament set out for me to read each day. Gets me through the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice each year. As I read each day sometimes certain things really stand out for me. These four verses from the Old Testament book of Proverbs are a case in point.
“There are six things the LORD hates—no, seven things he detests:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that kill the innocent,
a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.”
(Proverbs 6:16-19, NLT)
Why do these verses strike me so? One of the other things I do each day is read the news. The seven things that God hates listed in those verses comprise an excellent description of so much of what I read in the news. Our world seems to have quite comprehensively rejected God’s values and for many, even his existence!
All in all, not a good picture. I am relieved that I believe this is a temporary state of affairs. Jesus is coming back to this earth and he will set things right. Everywhere. And everything. Is it fanciful to believe this? Check this and more out for yourself by reading God’s book - the bible.
