Everything
Imagine if you could have anything and everything under the sun.
Anything this world has to offer.
What an opportunity.
What would you do? Where would you go? What would you get?
I could spend a lot of time thinking about that.
In the bible you can read about a man who spent a lot of time thinking about this too.
His name was Solomon.
The difference is that not only did he get this very opportunity in his life and had access to whatever he wanted, but he also went for it. He tried everything he could under the sun.
Then he wrote his conclusions in the book of Ecclesiastes, a part of God's message to all mankind in the Bible.
It's a really interesting book to read.
Along with a message about the ultimate futility of all the pleasures and fame and money and materials and knowledge, there are other more powerful messages.
One is that there is time and purpose to everything happening under the sun, even when we can't recognise it ourselves.
And that there is a higher power at play all the time.
That's a key message from God.
Another is don't make your life a waste of time - make the most of the life you have and recognise that in God you can find true profit in your life.
Solomon wrote: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV)
The book of Ecclesiastes is just one part of an amazing message in the bible, a message of hope for all mankind.
A message well worth reading.
