Design

When I look around me I see design in everything I look at. Being a design engineer and in research and development for many years it always struck me how hard it is to come up with a new concept without looking at someone else’s ideas from a product in the past. It made me realise how much God has put into His designs. And the question occurred to me - why wouldn’t He use similar building blocks when designing all of creation? He does. Look at DNA as one example.

DNA is in all living things. Apparently we as human beings share more than 60% of the same DNA as a banana. The following quote from an online article states, “Many of the ‘housekeeping’ genes that are necessary for basic cellular function, such as for replicating DNA, controlling the cell cycle, and helping cells divide are shared between many plants (including bananas) and animals”*. Seems crazy doesn’t it! But not when you realise that everything, including us, was designed by the same creator, God.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20 (NIV)

If we allow it, that leads us to a very important question. Why did God design and create us? He didn’t do all that as an end in itself! The above quote from the Bible invites us to find out more about His creation and plan for the earth. Read our other articles to find some answers and how this can be relevant to your future.
