Voting

You may not be aware that the writers of this blog don’t get involved in politics – including voting.  It’s fairly topical in Australia at the moment, given that we have just recently had a federal election.  Why on earth would we have a problem with voting?!  Well, even though we can’t physically see God, we believe He is actively overseeing world events, including individuals who come to power at various times.  The bible, God’s message to us, actually says this in a number of places.  For example, Daniel 2:21- 22  - “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power.  He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings…..”

From our point of view, given that we are trying our best to do things that are pleasing to God, we don’t want to get invested in any particular politician or political party. God is in control, we don’t want to go against His Will – and since in this case we don’t know what that is – we abstain!

But probably the more important point is – WHY is God controlling the course of world events?  What is His interest in our Earth?  The bible is quite clear that God is planning to send His son back to the Earth at some future point to fix the many problems we currently face.  War, terrorism, disease, starvation, pollution, injustice….the list goes on.  God is setting the scene for Jesus to return. This is His promise to you and me - “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:4
