Taking action - second of a three part series
Welcome to part 2 of our 3 part series on practicing humility.
Have you ever heard the saying ‘actions speak louder than words’?
“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honourable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.” (James 3:13 NLT). That verse echoes the saying quite well doesn’t it!
Here are some actions you can take.
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” (James 1:19 NLT) Spend more time listening than you do talking.
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.” (Proverbs 3:27 NLT) Give credit where credit is due.
“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:16 NLT) Admit when you’re wrong. Genuinely apologise. Start by using the words ‘I’m sorry’. Work hard to not make repeated mistakes.
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” (Philippians 2:3-4 NLT) Put others before yourself.
“Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.” (Proverbs 12:15 NLT) Ask for advice.
Humility paves the way for kindness. By putting humility into action, we start to understand the importance of contribution. Humble people can appreciate what others are going through and focus on contributing. It’s not about money; it’s about time. When you show more humility you understand the importance of contributing your time, which is far more valuable than money.
Time can never be given back. It can never be recreated or saved for a later date. After this moment passes, it’s gone forever. That’s why time is so valuable.
Let’s put these new skills into action!
