Three ways to get right with God

1. Believe in Him

Lots of people don’t. Lots of others aren’t sure. God Himself said “...I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.” (Isaiah 46:9, NIV) That’s one example of what the Bible says. But we can’t prove God; or equally for that matter disprove Him. We can look at the various systems that run our planet and the indications in our own bodies of intelligent design. It’s logical and indicative of God but it’s not of itself proof. It requires faith to believe in God. It’s interesting that this is also exactly what the Bible says. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1, NIV), and a few verses later “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, NIV)

2. Believe His word

In our times and for many centuries, God has chosen to reveal who He is, what He does and will do, and what He wants from us through His book, the Bible. Here’s what the Bible says about itself. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV) If we believe in Him but don’t believe His book how else can we find out about Him, let alone get right with Him?

3. Do something about it!

If we believe Him and believe the Bible is His book but do nothing about it, that’s not really much use! His book is full of what He wants from us and what He will do for us. But first we have to read it to find this out. And then we have to live the way He wants us to; at least the best we can. Did you notice that the verse quoted from 2 Timothy ended with a comma? That’s because it is intended that the next verse be read with it! “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV) To be ‘thoroughly equiped’ to do good works implies strongly that we have to use what we read to determine how we should live and put that into practice.

So, believe in God as an act of faith, believe that the Bible is His book telling us about Him, what He is doing, and what He wants from us. And then do what He wants, that’s getting right with God.

To be right with Him helps in our lives now; and it offers us an unimaginable future!
