Security
Many people in first world countries like Australia, England and the USA are experiencing fear around the basics of life – something they have not been exposed to before. With the loss of jobs has come anxiety around paying the rent or mortgage, paying utility bills and even being able to put enough food on the table. These are fears that people in less developed countries are living with all the time.
We are fortunate here in Australia that the Government has stepped in with funding to help those who have suddenly found themselves without a source of income – but even so, a lot of people are still struggling to make ends meet. And we’re all aware that this Government assistance doesn’t come without a price – the word ‘recession’ is now being mentioned regularly.
And let’s not forget the people who have been directly impacted by this wretched disease, so many sick and dying – families have lost loved ones or have to stay away from each other indefinitely.
In this time of isolation, it struck me that apart from the basics of life, the one thing we all want and often take for granted, is security. Nobody wants to be living in fear about having enough food, clothing or shelter. Nobody wants to be worrying about whether they can go into a public place without being infected. Nobody wants to be separated from, or lose altogether their loved ones.
The only one who can offer unconditional security is God. He has a plan to beautify this Earth through His son Jesus, bringing peace, safety and prosperity for all. As we wait for this time, we need to trust His words:
“Fear of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm.” (Proverbs 19:23, NLT)
