Looking for approval?
My entire life I have always struggled with the need for approval from others. Does this resonate with you?
I am a people pleaser with a low sense of self-worth. With help, I have finally realised and accepted that where I am seeking approval from is exactly where I’m never going to get it!
The journey ahead is to become more confident in who God made me to be, and to let go of the need for approval from others because this is not important to God. There are always going to be people who don’t believe in me, who don’t support me, who don’t like the way I do things, but God will fill all these needs if I let Him.
The Bible says “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10, NIV)
We have God who loves us and who made us. His acceptance is the only one that matters.
Here’s what He says: “Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2, NLT)
Once we let go of our need for approval from others by changing the way we think, we are free to really embrace the life God wants for us. We can then keep our blinkers on and focus on our own journey without looking left, right or backwards!
God tells us “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
(1 Corinthians 10:31, NLT)
