Is there any good news left?
I’ve written before about the drought, floods and bushfires that made a lot of 2019 a very difficult year for many in Australia and elsewhere around the world. We did our best to put that behind us when 2020 started; looking, hoping and dare we say, expecting something better. And now here we are in 2021! And once again we’re expecting something better. Hopefully we will not be disappointed but on balance you’d have to say it’s likely we will be!
Much has been written and said about COVID-19. With this coronavirus added into the mix 2020 was not been better than 2019. In fact it was much, much worse. But we (in Australia) did so well, we thought we were almost through it – but sadly the state of Victoria went into a stage four lockdown and although they have emerged from that, numbers are again on the rise in New South Wales and Queensland. Already this year COVID-19 is proving to be a big problem. Overseas it is a great deal worse.
All this doom and gloom might leave us wondering – is there any good news left?
Ever heard of the Gospel?
If you type ‘gospel’ into Google, a summary of the definitions that come up would be: the message concerning Christ, the kingdom of God and salvation. The word ‘gospel’ literally means ‘good news’ – so the definition often becomes, “the good news concerning Christ, the kingdom of God and salvation”.
In very basic terms, the Bible tells us that God allowed his son to die as a willing sacrifice for the sins of all humanity.
The Bible has a lot of detail in it about Christ’s life, death and resurrection to immortality as well as the fact that He will come again to heal the earth, right all the wrongs and set up the Kingdom of God on the earth forever.
I think you’d agree that this does sound like good news for what is definitely a troubled world! But there’s even more good news – because anyone who wants to, and is willing to try their best to do what God asks, can be a part of this incredible future.
This offer is still open, and if it sounds like good news to you then get hold of a Bible and check it out!
