Lies and more
Is it just me or does there seem to be an increase in lying and other poor behaviours in the public arena?
Here’s what God says about lying – and a few other things as well.
“There are six things the LORD hates—no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” (Proverbs 6:16-19, NLT)
You don’t have to look too hard to find all of these ‘qualities’ in action. Wherever you live you’ll see it locally; and technology has enabled the media to show us in real time what is happening locally in most other places in the world.
The US is by no means unique, but one particular issue this year has highlighted to me what happens when those verses describe a situation so well. I refer to the ongoing dispute about the validity of the election of the current US President. And the various behaviours as a reaction by so many people. Politics aside, the validity of that election is an established fact. But that has not stopped so many people from lying about it and convincing others of their views.
As a religious person I have no political views and take no part in politics at all. My comment is simply an observation and I stress the behaviour that God detests is everywhere. Not just in the US.
What a relief it is then for me to know that God is in control. His son is coming, and he will set things right. It’s all in God’s book – the Bible. Worth a read – especially in these strange and troubled times.
