Do not worry

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27, NIV)

It’s true isn’t it! It can’t be done! The question Jesus posed has the same answer today as it did then.

The preceding verses set a context for the question in verse 27. I’ve included the heading as well – it’s the title of this blog.

Do Not Worry

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26, NIV)

So, we matter to God. A few verses on – and it’s worth reading the intervening ones – Jesus concludes this subject with these words: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:33-34, NIV)

Each day certainly does have its troubles doesn’t it. But if we are trying to do what God wants us to do – ‘seeking His kingdom first’ – then God will look after us for our overall good. And that’s the key to not worrying.

There’s a lot of useful advice in God’s Bible. Both to help you live better now, and so much more. Certainly worth investigating.
