Eternity
“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT)
I underlined the word ‘eternity’ because I find its use fascinating. God has placed the desire for something more than just this life in us all. Hence the use of the word "eternity". It defines the quality in humankind that leads us to think, to explore, to want to know more. Not just about this life but what lies beyond.
The NKJV Study Bible comments about this verse puts the religious side of this quality so well. “Eternity in their hearts: refers to a deep-seated, compulsive drive to transcend our mortality by knowing the meaning and destiny of the world. Because we are made in the image of God, we have an inborn inquisitiveness about eternal realities. We can find peace only when we come to know our eternal Creator. Even then, we know God only in part (1 Cor. 13:12). from beginning to end: All we see is the micro-moment of our own existence in the grand span of eternity. Thus the Scriptures call people to live in robust faith during times of trial and pain; in the grand scheme of things, God will make everything beautiful.”
That is the future God has promised. He will indeed “make everything beautiful” and that can include us. Forever. We can read all about it in His book the Bible. Things to help us today and so much more!
