Priorities
For the last four years Olympic athletes have been training hard to try and achieve their dream of a gold medal. To succeed, discipline has been a priority – not only in training, but in things like diet, sleep, and mental focus.
For the rest of us, this leads to the thought – “what is our focus, what are our priorities?” The answers can be many and varied. It might be health, family, career, possessions or even a particular hobby. There are a huge number of options on which to spend our time.
For me, I do my best to follow the advice of Jesus: “Instead, make your top priority God’s kingdom and his way of life, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 NTFE)
Why is this my priority?
The wise king Solomon summed it up perfectly: “For people and animals share the same fate—both breathe and both must die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless! Both go to the same place—they came from dust and they return to dust.” (Ecclesiastes 3:19-20 NLT)
That all sounds a bit depressing, but the good news is about God’s coming kingdom to be established by His son Jesus. This will last FOREVER, which is why that is my priority. If something solid, dependable and lasting interests you, reading the Bible is a great start to finding it!
