Dates
We love to commemorate particular dates, don’t we? Birthdays, anniversaries, and other key milestones like Christmas day. These days give us the chance to celebrate, perhaps exchange gifts and in some cases enjoy a holiday. Christmas, it was only several weeks ago, is all of the above for many of us.
For many too, Christmas day represents a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s actually highly unlikely that December 25 was Christ’s birthday – follow the link below if you’re interested to know more.
The Bible doesn’t give the date of Christ’s birth and there is no instruction for us to celebrate it. What we ARE asked to do, is remember Christ’s death.
Paul records Jesus’ words at the last supper: ‘When He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take this bread and eat it. This is My body which is broken for you. Do this to remember Me.” In the same way after supper, He took the cup. He said, “This cup is the New Way of Worship made between God and you by My blood. Whenever you drink it, do it to remember Me.” Every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup you are telling of the Lord’s death until He comes again.’ 1 Corinthians 11:24-26 (TLV)
Again, we’re not given a particular date – it’s the action that matters! If you’re interested in doing things that please God - taking action - the Bible contains everything you need to know!
