Two sides
“There are always two sides to every story, and it is generally wise, and safe, and charitable, to take the best …“ (Edwards, 1749)
It can be very easy to forget this truism. You hear one side of a story and make a snap judgement, particularly if there is media involvement where there may be some bias. For example, it’s well known on reality TV programs that the producers will show only certain snapshots of a particular character to turn them into a villain. Unfortunately, that person then becomes the recipient of a lot of hatred – potentially unfairly.
Nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus taught a very similar message to our first quote “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging …” (Matthew 7:1-2 The Message)
The Bible is full of messages that help us to be kinder and less judgmental. It also promises a future world where all people will live that way.
Surely that’s worth checking for yourself?!
