Blessings
It was raining in Melbourne again. And as I watched the deluge outside, these words occurred to me. They were spoken by Jesus as part of his Sermon on the Mount where he gives us guidelines for our behaviour.
“… For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.” (Matthew 5:45 NLT)
It was raining on both the good and the not so good people. There is no differentiation in God’s eyes - all people benefit from His many blessings including the rain and sunshine.
So if God does this for everyone, just or unjust, then He will do so much more for those who love Him. And that’s what He wants. As our heavenly Father, He asks for our love and obedience.
The greatest commandment is recorded in the Bible in Matthew 22:37: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matt 22:37 NIV)
God promises great blessings for those who try to do this to the best of their ability.
A time is coming when everyone on earth will love God. How to be a part of that wonderful future is detailed in the Bible. The first step for us is to read it!
