Be still

It seems like the world gets a bit faster, a bit crazier, every day! Like being on a treadmill that’s speeding up all the time! At least that’s what it feels like to me sometimes.

But God’s Bible can help. He tells us to “be still”. That’s the opposite to being on the treadmill isn’t it. On that treadmill a big part of our fear is that it’s out of our control, out of anybody’s control. But God says to “be still”. The treadmill will still be here. At least for now. But the way we deal with it will be different.

It’s interesting to look at the words in God’s Bible just before and just after “be still”.

“He causes wars to end throughout the earth.

He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;

he burns the shields with fire.

‘Be still, and know that I am God!

I will be honoured by every nation.

I will be honoured throughout the world.’” (Psalms 46:9-10, NLT)

Knowing that this is what God’s intentions are for the world can give us confidence now as we wait for the time to come when wars end, and for God to be universally recognised. Life on the treadmill has a meaning as opposed to a purposeless and frantic race through our all too short lives.

Elsewhere in His book God tells us how we can have a permanent part in the time to come. How we can live forever. With purpose. Minus the treadmill. Worth researching? What do you have to lose!
