Pain

I think that most of us know what pain is – if you don’t then you are extremely fortunate!

Almost all of us would have hurt ourselves at one time or another in our lives – be it a headache, joint pain, neck or back pain, a broken bone, a soft tissue/muscular strain, or possibly even emotional/mental pain – those of us who have experienced any or possibly all of these things, know that they are not pleasant and can be very difficult to manage.

I wonder if any of you have noticed that pain (of all kinds) seems to be on the increase?

My job involves talking to unwell people on a daily basis – and the amount of pain (both physical & mental) within our communities seems to me to be at an all-time high.

A whole lot of people are hurting in so many different ways.

Housing is starting to get out of reach for many, rental prices and availability are out of control in most of our cities, businesses are collapsing all around us, leaving many in serious debt. The effects of the pandemic are still lingering, the cost of living is rising, fuel prices are the highest that we’ve ever seen – no wonder there’s so little hope and so much pain!

Everything seems to be changing so fast – it feels like there’s nothing to rely on.

One thing that has stayed the same though is the Bible – it tells us that God does not change. In the book of Revelation, it also tells us this, “I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’” (Revelation 21:3-4, NLT)

If that sounds like a future that might interest you – do yourself a favour, grab a Bible and have a read – there’s only pain to lose!
