Invisible force
If you’re out walking and pass by a creek or other water source, you can scoop up water in your hands; but on that same walk if a breeze is blowing you can’t hold the wind in your hands. You can’t see it, you can’t hear it and you can’t even really feel it. You can’t tell where it started and where it ends.
The wind is unlike other natural phenomena. You only see, hear and feel it’s effects, not the wind itself. It doesn’t make any noise. The faster it blows the more noise you hear but that’s because it moves objects in its path, for example tree branches. And you see them move as well. What you feel is the friction the air movement causes when it strikes your skin.
The intensity of the wind can vary from a gentle breeze to a full-blown cyclone, or even a tornado. The breeze might blow at 10kmh. A category 5 cyclone is when the wind speed extends beyond 200kmh. Such a wind flattens almost anything in its path. The wind speed inside the highest category tornado can be 500kmh! The destruction such a force creates is almost unimaginable.
Such is just one of the awesome forces available to God. The prophet Amos left no doubt who ‘owns’ the wind:
“He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth — the LORD God Almighty is his name.”
(Amos 4:13, NIV)
And yet God cares about us. As Amos said, He reveals His thoughts to us. Find out what God has let us know by reading His Bible. It can save your life!
