Wrestling
Wrestling is considered by many experts to be the world’s oldest sport. It apparently dates back to the ancient Sumerians (modern day Iraq), where a sculpture of wrestling allegedly dated 2,600 BC was found.
Evidence of wrestling as a sport has also been found in both ancient Babylon and Egypt in the form of drawings, (dated at 2,500 BC) many of which actually show people doing moves and holds that are still part of wrestling today.
One definition of the word wrestle is ‘to combat an opposing tendency or force’. (Merriam-Webster 2023)
Like it or not, we’re all wrestlers - we are constantly having to battle against opposing forces. Be it physical, mental, spiritual or financial - be it at work or at home. I cannot recall a time of much respite from difficulties and troubles.
In the Bible, Psalms 55:22 from the NLT reads: “Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the Godly to slip and fall.”
