Covenant

We don’t hear the word ‘covenant’ much these days do we? It’s older language, but it’s meaning is still very current - a formal agreement or contract.

Most of us have been party to a contract at some stage in our lives. Whether it was accepting a job offer, buying a car or a house, or even getting married! All these things involve an agreement between two parties in some form.

When God sent Jesus to live a sinless life and then die for us, He was establishing a new covenant. Jesus confirms this with his words at the last meal he shared with his disciples.

“After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and His people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.”  (Luke 22:20 NLT)

If we decide to accept this covenant, it actually means we become part of God’s family.

“See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know Him.”  (1 John 3:1 NLT)

The amazing things God has in store for His family are found in the Bible – it’s really worth checking out!
