Simple faith in a complex world

The Gospel of the kingdom of God is a beautiful simple message. Jesus showed us that the complex laws of the Old Testament could be summed up in just two clean statements:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matt 22:37-40 (NIV)

So Jesus gives us an order of priority here. He tells us to love God first with everything we have, then to love our neighbour as ourself.

I’m often amazed at how well mankind can confuse itself by making things more complex than they really need to be. And Christianity is not immune from this. If we can remember that the basis of our Faith is about loving God and then loving each other we are giving ourselves an excellent foundation to make decisions in life with, and hopefully to make choices that are pleasing to God, and are beneficial in building each other up spiritually.
