Goal Setting: the Key to success

Have you ever set a goal? It might be a health related thing like “get fit”, “eat healthier” or “lose weight”. So many people start on their goal, but most people stop somewhere along the way because they lose track or motivation on how to get there.

That’s where SMART goals come in: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For example, instead of saying “I want to get fit,” try “I want to run a 10k in six months.” Now you’ve got a target, a timeline, and a plan.

Breaking big goals into small, practical steps is a game-changer. Running a 10k is a big goal, but to get there you need to start with an action like “I’ll go for a run three times each week.” It’s less overwhelming—and way more motivating.

The apostle Paul had a goal too. A big one. In Philippians 3:13-14 he says:

“...Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me...”

As Christians, our big goal is to live a life worthy of God’s kingdom. But that can feel distant. So how do we stay focused? Just like with fitness—small, consistent actions. Try setting a daily goal like reading the Bible or taking a moment to pray. Little steps, big impact.
