Unlimited love

“The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:8-12 (NIV)

These verses show how very much God loves “those who fear him”. To ‘fear’ God is ‘to have great respect for’ Him and to love Him. How? By living life now, to the best of our ability in line with what He wants from us. That’s all spelled out in the Bible. Jesus summed it up as loving God completely and likewise our fellow humans. Imagine a world where that actually happened! Well that world IS coming when Jesus returns.

I find those words “as far as the east is from the west” really striking. And comforting. It doesn’t say ‘north’ from ‘south’ because you can put limits on those points of the compass - the North Pole is a specific distance from the South Pole but east from west can’t be specified. So there is no limit to how much God loves us! Isn’t that amazing. Does it make you want to thank Him? It certainly has that effect on me!
