The Leaning Tree
Every so often I go for a walk around the local wetlands. The path down one side goes under a tree that I’ve blogged about before.
When I walk under it I appreciate how incredible it is and yet how easy it would be, to just take it for granted. Maybe not even notice it at all.
The remarkable things which strike me are:
. the structural integrity which allows something that heavy to be stable even at a 45-degree angle.
. the fact that it continues to grow, becoming heavier still and yet remains stable
. that the growing tip can change direction and grow from horizontal, up toward the light.
I am in awe of the brilliance that designed the tree, allowing for that degree of complexity.
The Bible refers many times to that designer and all His creative activity - there’s so much more than one 45-degree tree! Here’s one particular reference right near the end of the Bible:
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” Revelation 4:11 (NIV)
You can read much more detail in the first chapters of the first book in God’s Bible, Genesis, which starts “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
When God did all this He had a plan in mind; one which offers an incredible future for humankind if we are interested enough to find out and to do what God wants from us as best we can. The Bible has all the details.
