Noise

Noise. It’s everywhere. Lawnmowers, chainsaws, cars, trucks, trains, loud music, people talking - especially in cafes, crowds at events or shopping centres. Then there’s aircraft. And construction noise - someone is always building or knocking down something and the bonus noise that goes with all that -  earthmovers, other heavy machinery, the carpenters hammers, nail guns etc. The list goes on and on

The bottom line is that noise is everywhere. It is unrelenting.

There’s another type of noise too. The information we are bombarded with everyday. Email, texts, social media, current events etc. Again the list goes on and it is so unhealthy for us.

I am convinced that civilisation as designed by humankind is noise. All forms of progress seem to be associated with noise.

Now this may sound like a rant and it probably is but it is a fact that continuous noise is not good for our mental or physical health. And I would add another aspect to that - our spiritual health. But God has provided an antidote to ‘noise’ in all its forms.

Jesus said: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 (NIV)

We can look after our spiritual health now, knowing that the peace Jesus can give us now includes the certainty of a wonderful and eternal future when he returns.

When he returns, the Kingdom he will set up will see people living in a very different way to now. “Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the LORD Almighty has spoken.” Micah 4:4 (NIV)

This suggests a peaceful and more natural life.

To help Jesus organise all of that and more is surely a wonderful thing to aspire to and it is something we can do. How? The details are in God’s Bible.
