Smell

Our sense of smell is sometimes overlooked in comparison to others, such as seeing and hearing.

However, smell is very capable of bringing to mind events from the past, positive or negative. For example, we all know from its’ peculiar smell that we have entered a dental surgery!

Other things too. A particular meal, a certain perfume, or the tang in the air when we walk by the sea. All these things capture our thoughts and in some cases our emotions.

One of my favourites is the smell of freshly cut grass at the beginning of spring. It reminds me that winter has come to an end and we’re making a fresh start with new growth and new life to follow.

“He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.” (Psalm 72:6 KJV)

This Bible verse is a promise from God that He is going to send His son Jesus to the earth to make a fresh start. The world is in a dark place at the moment; you could say it’s like we’re in the middle of winter. Jesus is going to be the beginning of spring bringing peace, safety and happiness for all.

The Bible contains all the details about this great time ahead.
