Self awareness

In our fast-paced and at times overwhelming world, self-awareness is much more than just a buzzword - it’s a vital element of personal growth, emotional intelligence, and spiritual maturity. To be self-aware is to have a clear understanding of our thoughts, emotions, motives, and behaviours. It means being honest with ourselves, recognising our strengths and weaknesses, and understanding how our actions affect others.

Self-awareness allows us the presence of mind to pause before we react, to choose empathy over anger, and to align our actions with our values. It helps us navigate relationships more wisely, make better decisions, and grow/develop into the people we’re meant to be.

From a biblical perspective, self-awareness is also a key component of our relationship with God. It opens the door for repentance, healing, and a deeper understanding of our position in the bigger scheme of things. As we become more aware of who we are, we also become more attuned to who God is - and how much we need Him.

True self-awareness doesn’t come from self-focus alone, but can be far more rewarding if we invite God into the process. In doing so, we not only understand ourselves more deeply but also walk more faithfully in the way He has set before us.

The Bible reminds us of the power of self-reflection and God’s role in revealing the truth about ourselves:

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)
