Living my best life
A while back we had a visit from our grandsons. The youngest was wearing a t-shirt with the slogan ‘Living my best life’ which made me stop and think. Most children have a relatively easy life with no real worries or responsibilities, so it is easier for them to live a happy, carefree life.
But what about we adults, with all the responsibilities modern life entails? Have we let everything which surrounds us, the worries and stresses of this life, overwhelm us? Are we living in the past or the future? Are we living our best lives NOW? In this very moment, the present.
It is said that we spend up to 50% of our time thinking about things which are not related to what we are actually doing. Now some tasks don’t need us to be focussed but others would benefit from our concentrating on them.
The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us “Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.” (9:10) NLT
We all have a limited time on this earth, and are destined to die at some stage so let’s concentrate on the here and now, doing the best we can with our lives. Don’t get distracted by what has happened or by what might happen.
The Gospel of Matthew tells us - “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (6:34) NLT
There’s so much more in God’s Bible - other good advice for now and a wonderful hope for the future.
